Performing overrides

The override capability of BMC Remedy Approval Server allows a process administrator to move an approval process forward when the normal approver has not responded. An override is useful in an unexpected situation, such as when the normal approver is unavailable but did not designate an alternate.

A single-signature override closes one approver signature, similar to acting as an alternate approver for one signature line, and allows the approval request to continue within the regular process. In this case, an override rejection terminates the request just as if the original approver had rejected it. An override approval moves the request forward just as if the original approver had approved it. If more approvers exist, the request is routed to them.

A global override closes all open signatures, stops routing the request, and terminates the approval process for that request. The global override is useful for unusual situations, such as ending an approval process for a request that is no longer necessary.

The following topics provide information about how to perform an override:

A process administrator can assign override-only authority to any user without granting other approval process administrator privileges. For more information, see Configuring process administrator capabilities.

Performing an override to a single signature

If you have override capability for an approval process, you perform the same steps to approve or reject the request as the original approver. However, you must specify that you are performing an override.

To perform an override to a single signature

  1. Log on to the product as the process administrator for the process you need to override (such as the process administrator or BMC Remedy AR System administrator).
  2. Open Approval Central by using one of the methods described in Opening Approval Central.
  3. In the Actions section, click Search My Approvals.
  4. In the Approval Searchsection:
    • In the Acting As field, select Override.
    • In the User field, enter the BMC Remedy AR System user name of the user whose pending approvals you want to access.
    • In the Application field, select the appropriate application if necessary.
    • Click Search.
The Approval Search Result table displays all pending requests for the specified user. You can now approve or reject these requests with override authority.

Performing a global override

If you have global override capability, you perform the same steps to approve or reject the request as the original approver. However, you must specify that you are performing a global override.

To perform global overrides

  1. Log on to BMC Remedy AR System as the process administrator for the process you need to override (such as the process administrator or BMC Remedy AR System administrator).
  2. Open Approval Central by using one of the methods described in Opening Approval Central.
  3. In the Actions section, click Search My Approvals.
  4. In the Approval Searchsection:
    1. In the Acting As field, select Global Override.
    2. In the Application field, select the appropriate application if necessary.
    3. Click Search.
The Approval Search Result table displays all pending requests for the application selected. You can now approve or reject these requests with override authority.
