Enabling alert notifications

The alert system engages when a filter or escalation Notify action sends a notification through the alert mechanism. This section describes how alerts work in BMC Remedy AR System .

For information about using the Notify action to send an alert and other methods of notification delivery, see Notify action.

Alert system architecture

The alert system consists of the following components:

  • The BMC Remedy AR System server
  • The Alert Events form
  • The Alert List form and Alert List field type
  • The AR System Alert User Registration form
  • Plug-in server alert capability
  • An installed plug-in to send alerts via Web services

The BMC Remedy AR System server uses the installed alert forms and related workflow to maintain a list of registered alert users, to store pending alerts, and to display each user's alerts in an alert list.

Users can view their alerts in the alert list in a browser, or they can receive alerts outside of BMC Remedy AR System, for example, over a social networking service.

Application developers can enable an application to notify users about alerts by using the Notify workflow action with the alert delivery mechanism. By registering users for the appropriate alert types, your application can send alerts to a plug-in. Through the plug-in server, alerts can be delivered to various destinations outside of BMC Remedy AR System, such as a web service or a social networking service.
