Displaying VSAM file information


When you enter action code V on the Select Restart Data Set Content Type panel to display VSAM file information, AR/CTL displays the Display VSAM File Information panel. Use this panel to display information about the VSAM files that were open at the time of the checkpoint.

The panel provides the following information about the cluster:

Type File

The type of the data set as determined by the application program. The following values are valid:

INP

The file was open for input.

OUT

The file was open for output.

blank

The file was open for input and output.

Access

The type of AR/CTL access used for the data set. The following values are valid:

LOCAL

The data set used local VSAM access services.

REMOTE

The data set used remote VSAM access services.

VSAM Type

The type of the data set according to the VSAM definition. The following values are valid:

ESDS

The data set is a VSAM entry-sequenced data set.

KSDS

The data set is a VSAM key-sequenced data set.

RRDS

The data set is a VSAM relative record data set.

Cluster Name

The name of the VSAM data set.

RESTART xxx

The key that AR/CTL will use when it repositions the data set at restart, where xxx is one of the following values:

Description

KEY

The repositioning key displayed is the first 45 bytes of a record key (in character format).

RBA

The repositioning key is a relative byte address.

RBN

The repositioning key is a relative block number.
