Configuring the Collector to monitor your VMs

The system can identify your virtual machines (VMs) by using information that it collects from VM managers that host them, such as VMware® vCenter or a stand-alone ESX server.

Using this information, the system can report statistics about web traffic to your VMs and indicate what percentage of your web servers are nonvirtual or virtual. It can also localize problems with your VMs to the physical computers hosting them.

To identify your VMs, you must set up a connection between the system and each of the VM managers that manages them. After you add a VM manager to the system, you can view the complete information about the VMs and the physical hosts that this manager manages.
