Defining automation solutions in a policy

If, while updating a policy interval, you selected automation as one of the activities, you must provide the name of one or more solutions that you want to execute.

If no solutions are named, no automation will occur. Likewise, if solutions are named but automation was not selected, no automation will occur.

To enter the solution names for the interval

  1. Type AUTO on the COMMAND line of either the short or the extended dialog, and press Enter. The Automation solution dialog is displayed.
  2. Enter the solution names that relate to the data that is being collected during the interval. You can enter up to eight solution names for each automation type in the order that you want them to execute (1-8).

    • Use AutoPOOL and AutoVOL solutions when you select pool for the data collection.
    • Use AutoDS solutions when you select data set collection.

The solution names that you choose must be defined in the SMRLSTxx member, the suffix of which is identified by the AutoPOOL, AutoVOL, and AutoDS function in the active SMFUNCxx member.

  3. After you complete the entries in the dialog, press PF3 to exit and save the interval updates, or go back to the short or extended dialogs to continue updating the interval.
  4. When you finish updating the interval, issue the R (refresh) command to make your changes take effect.
