SVOS command syntax conventions

Use this information when executing SVOS commands.

Syntax conventions

The following syntax conventions apply to SVOS commands and the optional parameters.

  • Square brackets [ ] indicate that the parameters within the brackets are optional. Do not type the brackets.
  • Braces { } indicate that you must choose among items found within the braces. Use only one item. Do not type the braces.
  • A vertical bar | indicates that you must choose among the items separated by the bar. The bar is used in conjunction with the brackets and braces. Use only one item. Do not type the bar.
  • Uppercase indicates that the field must be typed as shown. You can type it in either uppercase or lowercase.
  • Lowercase indicates that the operand must be supplied to the command. You can type it in either uppercase or lowercase.
  • Commands and operands can be separated with either blanks or commas.

MODIFY commands

After SVOS is started, you can use MODIFY commands to enter commands from the console.

The following example shows how to use the MODIFY command:

Warning

Example

F SVOS,STATUS SVSGD
F SVOS,STOP SVALLOC

Subsystem character

You can use the SVOS subsystem character to enter commands from the console.

The slash (/) is the default character, but you can use the SUBCHAR parameter to override the default subsystem character. To disable the SVOS subsystem character and allow using the MODIFY command only, specify SUBCHAR=NONE in the parameter field in the SVOS Started Task.

By using the subsystem character, you do not need to remember the Started Task name that the MODIFY commands use. To get the same results as shown in the MODIFY command example, type the following commands on the console:

/STATUS SVALLOC
/START SVSGP
/STOP SVSGD

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
