Summary mode report creation functions

When creating a PDF report, the Summary mode is used to force the report graphs to depict data by a specific time interval either Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly. This setting is strictly used for the graph functions and affects how the graphs are summarized and depicted. (The setting has no affect on pie charts that always reflect the Span Days setting.)

The following rules apply:

  • Setting the Summary Mode to Hourly that always causes the Span Days to assume a value of one day. This setting depicts an hourly graph, showing message rates for each hour of the selected
  • , useful for detailed inspection of the hour message rates.
  • Setting the Span Days to 1-Day causes the Summary Mode to be Hourly, regardless of its current setting. This means that if you have selected 1-Day as the Span Days, the Summary Mode setting is disregarded (and the data is summarized Hourly).
  • Setting the Summary Mode to Auto automatically selects a summary mode appropriate for the selected Span Days setting as follows:

If the Span Days setting is greater than 365 days, then the summary mode is yearly.
If the Span Days setting is greater than 70 days, then the summary mode is monthly.
If the Span Days setting is greater than 20 days, then the summary mode is weekly.
If the Span Days setting is 1 day, then the summary mode is hourly; otherwise the summary mode is daily.

Note

It is always appropriate to set the Summary Mode to Auto that might be the most convenient setting and that is the default setting for a report when it is created by the operator. In general, this summary mode is furnished to provide a high level of detail in graphing that might not otherwise be useful in the general case.
