Report PDF screen
BMC Defender Server includes a PDF reporting facility, that generates reports in standard Adobe PDF format. The PDF Reporting screen is accessed by clicking on the Reports tab at the top of the screen. This displays the PDF The top level PDF Reports screen is depicted as follows:

Detailed notes on the BMC Defender Server. Additionally, the PDF Report Generation Users Guide is available using the More > User Manuals screen. The BMC Defender Server can be configured to generate up to 100 different reports, and selectively publish these reports to RSS aggregator programs, thereby providing a comprehensive reporting capability needed for auditors, system planners, and analysts.
Additional notes
PDF reports operate in a fashion similar to Audit reports; the system automatically creates a report database at midnight for each report, and you can regenerate the database on demand. Unlike Audit reports, a report database is regenerated for a particular day ONLY if the data has changed for the report. This permits rapid execution of the Generate Database function, and retention of the data for long periods of time (1000 days by default.) This behavior can be modified by setting the Overwrite value to True on the Generate Report Database screen (when manually generating a report).
When generating a report database or rendering a PDF report, the following specific options apply
- Start Date—The operator can specify a start date for the report. The default start date is Today, that displays the latest data from the report database (specifically the data one day prior to the current day, that is midnight the morning of the current day.)
Span Days—The operator can specify the number of days for the report to span, ranging from one day to one year in predefined increments.
- Summary Mode—The operator can specify a mode by that to summarize the data, either Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. This Summary Mode is explained in a later section herein, but generally the setting of Auto is appropriate for all reports (and selects a summary mode based on the span days setting.)
The initial values for these settings are specified when the report is created, and can be adjusted using the Edit option for a particular report.
The Span Days value, configured in the report interacts with the Summary Mode as follows: Setting the Span Days to one day automatically selects an Hourly summary mode; Setting the Summary Mode to Hourly causes the Span Days setting to be one day. This allows you to get a report on the hourly activity of a thread or data source as well as report over long periods of time (such as one year.)
