Configuring BMC Atrium CMDB Engine

You can perform all the Atrium CMDB configurations from the CMDB Administration menu. Using the Atrium CMDB Configuration console, you can configure the General Settings, Cache Settings (Applicable for Server Group Environments only), and Advanced Settings. All the logs generated for Atrium CMDB have a unified format across the CMDB Engine and its components.

If you are in a server group environment, click the drop-down list to select the required AR server. If you have a standalone environment, the required server name is automatically populated.

You can also configure the BMC Atrium Core CMDB parameters using the Centralized Configuration System. For more details, see  Updating configuration settings by using the AR System Configuration Generic UI form

To configure CMDB Engine parameters

  1. On the AR System Home page, select  Atrium Core > CMDB Administration.

  2. Make the required changes using the Configuration tab.
    Configuration: General Settings

FieldName in the AR Configuration (ar.cfg or ar.conf) fileDescription
GQ Recursion LimitCMDB-GQRecursion-LimitSets the limit for number of levels of recursion for CMDB graph query.
CI Viewer Graph LimitCMDB-CIViewer-Graph-LimitSets the CI viewer graph limit.

    Impact Weight Default

CMDB-Impact-Weight-DefaultSpecifies the default weight attached to impact relationship. This value is used in Atrium Impact Simulation.
Maximum Results Per QueryCMDB-Max-Results-Per-QuerySpecifies the maximum number of results that are returned per query. If this value is 0 it means that the maximum results per query are unlimited.
Enable Inline NormalizationCMDB-Inline-NormalizationEnables normalization of CIs. Changing this to the value F stops all normalization.
Enable Event ChannelEvent-Channel-EnabledEnables the subscriber to receive the event as soon as a CI is created, updated, or modified.
Hard Delete Only Marked for Delete CIsCMDB-Hard-Delete-Only-If-Marked-For-Delete

Specifies that, if a CI is to be hard deleted, it should be first marked for deletion. This setting does not apply to the CIs of classes from BMC.CORE.CONFIG namespace.

Configuration: Cache Settings (Applicable for Server Group Environments only)

Field Name in the AR Configuration (ar.cfg or ar.conf) fileDescription
Cache Refresh Interval CMDB-Cache-Refresh-IntervalSpecifies the time interval in milliseconds after which the CMDB refreshes its cache in the background. To disable this parameter set this value to minus -. For example, -1.
    Default value: 300000
Note: If the value of this parameter is not greater than 60000 milliseconds (60 seconds), the default value is taken.
    Cache Refresh Initial DelayCMDB-Cache-Refresh-Initial-Delay

Specifies the time delay in milliseconds after the cache should be refreshed after the server is started. This value is used for server group environment only.

    Default value: 900000
Note: If the value defined for this parameter is less than 60000 milliseconds (60 seconds), the default value is taken.
  3. Click Apply, then click Close.

To configure logging information for BMC Atrium CMDB engine, see Configuring BMC Atrium CMDB Engine Logging.

Configuring CMDB Advanced Settings

  1. Make the required changes using the Advanced Settings tab.

    Advanced settings: ChunkedItem Settings

Field Name in the AR Configuration (ar.cfg or ar.conf) fileDescription
ChunkedItem Cleanup IntervalCMDB-ChunkedItem-Cleanup-IntervalSpecifies the time interval in milliseconds at which the CMDB server should perform the orphan data checks. To disable this parameter set a value to minus -. For example, -1.
    Default value: 300000
Note: The value for this parameter should be greater than 60000 milliseconds (60 seconds), if it is not then the default value is taken.
ChunkedItem Cleanup Initial DelayCMDB-ChunkedItem-Cleanup-Initial-DelaySpecifies the time interval in milliseconds to start checking for the orphan data after CMDB server has started.
    Default value: 900000
Note: The value for this parameter should be greater than 60000 milliseconds (60 seconds), if it is not then the default value is taken.
ChunkedItem Allowed Period in CacheCMDB-ChunkedItem-Allowed-Period-In-CacheSpecifies the time interval in milliseconds after which the data will be treated as orphaned and the memory can be reclaimed by server.
    Default value: 3600000
Note: The value for this parameter should be greater than 60000 milliseconds (60 seconds), if it is not then the default value is taken.
  2. Click Apply, then click Close.

Enable Inline NormalizationCMDB-Inline-NormalizationNormalizes the CI as soon as it is created, updated, or modified.

This is incorrect. This is not what the flag is for. The flag must be set to T regardless of inline or not inline normalization. Otherwise if the flag is set to F normalization will not work properly even for batch, continuous or inline.
