CMDB plug-ins

By using BMC CMDB plug-ins, you can extend the Remedy AR System server functionality to external data (data not contained in the Remedy AR System database).

The Remedy AR System plug-in server enables integration between Remedy AR System and external programs or environments. All plug-ins are registered with the plug-in server that runs them as needed and manages all interaction between the Remedy AR System and external programs and environments.

Plug-in servers

There are two servers where BMC CMDB plug-ins are loaded:

  • Normalization Engine plug-in server
This is a dedicated plug-in server.
  • Shared plug-in server
This server loads the following plug-ins:
    • Atrium Integrator Pentaho plug-in
    • Deprecation plug-in
    • Dynamic Service Modeling plug-in
    • Event Engine Channels plug-in
    • Federated Data plug-in
    • Impact Simulator plug-in
    • Notification plug-in
    • Service Context plug-in
    • Unified Service Modeling plug-in

Atrium Integrator Pentaho plug-in

This plug-in connects and interacts with the Remedy Action Request System server by using the Remedy Action Request System Java APIs. It enables Remedy AR System or Remedy ITSM suite application users to run and monitor Atrium Integrator jobs and transformations from Remedy AR System vendor forms.

Remedy Action Request System server

Deprecation plug-in

This plug-in is used to support the create, read, update, and delete operations on instances in the deprecated classes in BMC CMDB.

CMDB

Dynamic Service Modeling plug-in

The Dynamic Service Modeling (DSM) plug-in periodically queries the CMDB to see if there are any new configuration items (CIs) or modified CIs that meet the criteria in the saved queries. If a matching CI is found, a relationship is created to relate it to the business or technical service CI.

CMDB

Event Engine Channels plug-in

This plug-in provides a mechanism for notifying changes to the CIs that are stored in BMC CMDB.

CMDB

Federated Data Plug-ins (JDBC and AR)

The federated data plug-ins use adapters to connect an external source of data to BMC CMDB.

The Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) adapter enables configurations managers to federate data from any JDBC-compliant database. The AR adapter enables federation of data from forms on any Remedy AR System servers.

CMDB

Impact Simulator plug-in

The CMDB Impact Simulator (AIS.FILTERAPI) plug-in is responsible for handling commands from the user interface, organizing the simulation information, and creating results. It is responsible for querying the CMDB for all the components and relationships and calculating the impact of the simulation.

CMDB

Normalization Engine plug-in

The Normalization Engine plug-in (BMC.FILTERAPI.NORM.ENGINE) normalizes instances by using the product catalog data. Based on the product catalog entry, it normalizes the Category, Type, and Item values of a CI.

CMDB

Notification Engine plug-in

The applications that rely on a CI and relationship data stored in the BMC CMDB use this plug-in to detect whether CIs and relationships have been added, changed, or deleted.

CMDB

Service Context plug-in

This plug-in is the logic that supports the BMC Atrium Service ContextBMC Atrium Service Context collects key attributes from several BMC applications and provides that information in a consistent and summarized format.

CMDB

Unified Service Modeling plug-in

The Unified Service Modeling (USM) plug-in provides an interface for working with business services. It provides an interface for Remedy AR System applications, such as and BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management to access USM-related features through the vendor form.
