Populating data in BMC CMDB
This use case describes the various high-level steps required to load BMC CMDB with data.
Scenario
Workflow
Populating BMC CMDB includes activities such as importing and filtering data and verifying that each data import is successful. To import data into BMC CMDB, complete the following procedures:
Product | Component | Console | User | Action | Reference |
---|---|---|---|
BMC CMDB | Configuration Manager | Create test cases to validate data | Test cases to validate data population |
Migrate the CIs and relationships from the production/non-production dataset of the Source system to the non-production (sandbox) dataset of target system. | To migrate a CI Relationship, migrate the Instance ID of the CI and its relationship. If CI/Relationship is associated with an application (for example, Remedy ITSM suite orService Request Management), you must migrate the Reconciliation ID of both the CI and its relationship | ||
Perform post-migration validation. | |||
Reconcile the migrated dataset to the production dataset of the target system. |
Results
After performing these tasks, your CMDB can be considered the 'golden data' which can be reliably used for other ITIL processes within the organization.
Benefits
Populating the data in the BMC CMDB ensures that the organisation can achieve higher reliability of their business services.
