Understanding job state progression

Draft

When staging a job, the job remains in Draft state until submitted for approval and scheduling. In Draft state, multiple authorized users can edit the job. When the job is submitted, the Job transitions to either a Waiting for Approval state or a Scheduled state depending on whether approvals are required.

Waiting for Approval

If approvals are required, the job moves into this state. The job remains in this state until approvals are granted. If the job is not approved before its scheduled time is reached, it is cancelled. Jobs that have been created to be run when approved remain in this state until approved or rejected and is never cancelled. Depending on the parameters defined on the job approval type, an email can be sent to the approvers when the job enters the waiting for approval state.

Scheduled

A job enters this state when approvals, if required, have been granted.

In Progress

When the scheduled time arrives, the Job begins to run and the state is changed to In Progress. Users can view the Job Details report to monitor progress states such as executing login, executing snapshot, executing image load and executing logout.

Completed Successfully

When a job is completed successfully, it is put into this state.

Completed with Errors

When a job is completed with errors, it is put into this state.

Completed with Warnings

When a job is completed with warnings, it is put into this state.

Cancelled not Approved

When the scheduled time arrives for a job that is waiting for approval, the job is cancelled and is put into this state.

Cancelled

When the user cancels a scheduled job, the job moves to this state.

Rejected

When the user rejects a job waiting for approval, the job moves to this state.

Aborted
