Installing an FTP server on Windows

TrueSight Network Automation installs TFTP as the default file transfer protocol for devices. Unlike the TFTP server, the FTP server is not installed during the TrueSight Network Automation installation process outlined in the previous sections.

To transfer configuration files or OS images using the FTP protocol, follow this procedure for installing or configuring an FTP server. See the Device Adapter Capabilities report attached on Supported devices for a complete list of vendors supported by the product for FTP file transfers.

If you are running Internet Information Services (IIS) under Windows, you have the option of using the FTP server supplied by IIS. See the Microsoft documentation to learn how to configure and enable this feature in IIS 6 or IIS 7.

Recommendation

There are many commercial and open source FTP servers available for Windows. BMC recommends using the FTP server provided by Microsoft IIS.
