SNMP Adapter

The SNMP (Trap) Adapter consists of a UDP SNMP server listening for SNMP traps. It includes the mib2map utility that compiles information from Management Information Base (MIB) files into cell classes, and map and enumeration configuration files used to format traps into cell events.

The MAP file manages the translation between SNMP traps coming from an external source and a cell event. Each instance of an adapter is related to a MAP file. To get the name of the MAP file that has to be configured, the mib2map utility refers to the MapFile parameter in the first enabled instance of the SNMP Adapter in the mcxa.conf file. The mcxa.conf file is located in the installationDirectory\pw\server\etc directory. The installationDirectory\pw\server directory is the path to the cell and the BMC Event Adapters configuration and executable files.

If you have not specified a file name for the MapFile parameter, the mib2map utility uses the mcsnmptrapd.map file name by default.

The SNMP adapter receives SNMP traps and populates them to the event cell for visualization as raw event data out-of-the-box. Administrators and users can view SNMP traps in the GUI without any configuration, other than enabling the out-of-the-box SNMP adapters. Administrators can review raw SNMP trap data prior to configuration and importing of MIBs.
