pw system change hostname

The pw system change hostname command lets you change the host name of the computer where the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server is installed.

This command expects the new host name to resolve to the same IP address as the old host name. This feature prevents you from using a host name that resolves to a wrong IP address. If the new host name is resolved to a wrong IP address, then you will not be able to start the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

You might need to change the host name in the following situations:

  •  You need to move the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server to a different computer. This command updates the appropriate configuration files with the new host name.
  •  You want to configure disaster recovery for Infrastructure Management where both servers are located in the same domain and you must use a host name alias to properly configure disaster recovery. This command sets up the host name alias for the secondary host.

Notes

  • You cannot use this command to change the domain of the Infrastructure Management server and change the Publishing Server Name (psName). For changing the psName manually, see Using Publishing Server CLI commands.
  • Running this command does not update the BPPMServerInstalledConfiguration.xml with the new host name. This can result in issues during upgrade to the next version of Infrastructure Management.
Therefore, after changing the host name, in addition to running this command, ensure that you update the BPPMServerInstalledConfiguration.xml file in the Infrastructure Management installation folder.

The command format is as follows:

pw system change hostname <newHostName>
