Event List dashlet

The Event List dashlet displays a list of events based on selected filter criteria. Users can view the list of events assigned to themselves, or to other users, based on the filter criteria.

The dashlet displays the list of events with severity, importance, date and time stamp, message, and status, as shown in the figure.

Dashlet requirements

At least one instance of a TrueSight Infrastructure Manager server must be registered with the Presentation Server for the dashlet template to be listed.

Configuring the dashlet

You can configure this dashlet when you add or edit a dashboard Open link

  1. Click Add Dashlet and select the Event List dashlet.

  2. Click the Configure Dashlet  icon.

  3. Enter a meaningful and descriptive Title for the dashlet.
  4. From the Refresh Rate list, select a frequency for refreshing the chart view.

    The default is 5 minutes.

  5.  In the Event Filter section, select an option to filter the event count:

    • Applications (All or Selected)

    • Groups (All or Selected)

    • Devices (All or Selected)

For the Selected option, click the link to search for and add the applications, groups, or devices. A  link is displayed after you selected the applications, groups, or devices. Click the link to change the selected applications, groups, or devices.

Differentiating between the All and Select All options

In the Event Filter section there is a difference in behavior between choosing the All Groups or All Devices and choosing the Select All option from the Groups and Devices search dialog boxes.

      • Choose All to select all the groups or devices that are currently in TrueSight. This list changes automatically as groups or devices are added or removed.
      • Choose Select All to select only the items that are returned from a search. The list of groups or devices does not change.

See the figure for an example.

      Note

If the dashboard user selects an application from the Applications list at the dashboard level, then that selection is honored and takes precedence over the choices selected in this step.

  6. (Optional) Select Show events assigned only to me to display the list of events assigned only to the logged in user profile.
Selecting this option disables the Status types and only Assigned events are filtered. As shown in this figure, the cursor is disabled for the status types. Clearing this check box enables the Status types with defaults selected.

  7. From the Status list, select one or more event status to display:
    • Open

    • Acknowledged

    • Assigned

    • Blackout

    • Closed

By default OpenAcknowledged, and Assigned are selected.

  8. From the Severity list, select one or more event severity to display:

    • Critical

    • Major

    • Minor

    • Warning

    • Information

    • OK

    • Unknown

By default, CriticalMajor, and Minor are selected.

      Note

If no Status or Severity is selected, all types are displayed.
  9. (Optional) Select an Add Advanced Filter and select the slots, as shown in the following figures.
You can add or delete the slots using the and  icons. For information about advanced filtering options, see Using custom filters to filter events.

    Note

    • The search is not case sensitive, except for the List of String slot type. For example, an event with slot value "London" is listed when you specify "london" or "London" for an "==" operator.
    • For operations on strings like ">" or "<", the ASCII values of strings are used for comparison.
For example, if you use the operator ">" when the Message slot has “cell started” and the comparison string is “b”, this event is listed. If the comparison string is “d”, this event is not listed.
    • The slot type number includes integers, floating point, and real numbers.

  10. Select the height of the dashlet row: 1X2X, or 3X
The value of X is approximately 100 pixels. The default height is 3X.
  11. Click Apply to add the configured dashlet to the dashboard.

    Best practice

After you save the dashlet, change the dashboard row size settings to 100% layout.

Event management operations

Based on the current status of the event, the event management operations may vary. For some user roles, all the capabilities are available and for other roles, only a limited set of capabilities are available. In addition, these capabilities may be enabled and disabled based on the current workflow. For example, an Unacknowledge Event operation is not visible until an event has been previously acknowledged. For more information about performing these operations, see Performing event operations in the TrueSight console.
