Virtual Planner Settings

There are several base settings for the Virtual Planning feature that you can change if you want to make global modifications. These settings apply to the performance rating that is the basis for the performance statistics shown in the studies, as well as the Hardware Table service, and the level of detail used for the Virtual Planning log files.

Navigate to the Virtual Planner tab, and click Settings in the task pane to display the Settings page. Modify the settings as required and click Save. You can convert guest profiles to standard templates by using Convert Guest Profiles.



Performance Rating

Basis: This setting specifies which performance rating is the basis for the performance statistics shown in the studies. The available options may include the following:

    • CFP2000
    • CFP2000rate
    • CFP2006
    • CFP2006rate
    • GHz
    • MIPS
    • RPERF
    • SPECINT2000
    • SPECINT2006
    • SPECINT95
    • SPECINTRATE2000 (default)
    • TPC­C


To get the RPERF values, ensure that the exact configuration entry for RPERF values is available in the hrw files.

This rating system will be used to size the CPU capacity of the target systems, and the CPU demand of the candidates during the study. If you modify this value after the information has already been loaded for a domain and entity filter, the data will be reloaded to determine the new demand and capacity values for the selected rating basis.

Systems for which the CPU capacity or demand values can not be determined for the selected rating system will be shown in the Exceptions table. The exceptions generated due to this inability to resolve to new rating values are:

    • Benchmark capacity cannot be retrieved
    • No performance rating used information available

The CPU Performance Rating of the default new virtual host hardware of any active Study Profiles will also be converted to the new basis. A warning message will be displayed if converting to the new rating system fails.

Type of Series Analysis

Select the method used during placement analysis to evaluate CPU and memory usage. The available methods are:

DAYPROFILE: Evaluate CPU and memory consumed over the selected time period using the Day Profile for each metric. A Day Profile is a profile of 24, 1-hour average values constructed by taking the average of all the values found in the selected time range for a metric that occurred at each hour of the day

TIMEANALYSIS: Evaluate CPU and memory consumed using each hourly value available during the selected time period.

Log Level

Use this option to control the level of detail for the Virtual Planning log file. The levels are Low or High. Click View Log File to view the contents of the log file. The log file is available at the following location: $CPIT_BASE$/web/log/vp.log

Saved FiltersDelete Saved Filter: Expand the drop down list and select the filter you want to delete. A confirmation dialog will be displayed.
Saved Affinity Rule SummariesDelete Saved Affinity Rule: Expand the drop down list and select the affinity rule you want to delete. A confirmation dialog will be displayed.
