Viewing the status of the data warehouse

The Status page can be very useful to TrueSight Capacity Optimization administrators as it provides information that can help prevent issues related to lack of space in the tablespaces allocated for the application. It shows disk usage statistics for all tablespaces, including the space used by key tables.

To access the Status page, navigate to the Administration tab and click DATA WAREHOUSE > Status.

The content of this page is organized in four sections as shown in the following image:

The following table describes the Status page sections:

Alerts

Displays diagnostic alerts related to the data warehouse.

Click the Diagnostic Alerts link to go to the Diagnostic alerts page and view more details.

Click Back to Warehouse status to go back to the Status page.

Space

The bar represents the total space of the filesystem used by the tablespace of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization database.

To ensure that the available space is utilized properly, click next to Total Available Space and edit how much space on the filesystem is available for tablespaces. In the Edit Total DB Available Space dialog that opens, type the required number and click Save.

Click the Space Report link to go to the Space Report page and view more details.

Click Back to Warehouse status to go back to the Status page.

Flow

Displays four color-coded squares that indicate the data warehouse status for the following:

  • Active threads: Number of active threads in the data warehouse, that is threads that are actively doing data warehouse activities
  • Average throughput: The average processing throughput of all the data warehouse threads during the last 24 hours
  • Blacklisted series: The number of series blacklisted by the warehouse process. Possible causes for blacklist could be malformed series or those with a timestamp in the future.
  • Maximum queue age: The age of the "oldest" sample in the warehouse processing queue.

Yellow and red colors denote potential flow problems and are used to identify the values that should be analyzed:

GreenValue is less than 24 hours.

RedValue is greater than 48 hours.

Volume

Displays values and charts for for the following volumes processed by the TrueSight Capacity Optimization data warehouse components:

  • Processed today
  • Processed yesterday
  • Average daily processed rows (last 30 days)
  • Estimated daily capacity (8 hour period)
  • Estimated daily capacity (24 hour period)

Interpreting the Volume chart

You can quickly gauge the status of your data warehouse from the Volume chart:

  • Compare Loaded Rows with Processed Rows. If loaded rows are much higher than processed rows, this will increase the queue age.
  • Compare Processed Rows with Average daily processed rows (last 30 days).
    • If processed rows are higher, it means that there are new data flows.
    • If they are lower than the average value, it means that there is less data flowing in the system. Both cases can be problematic if they are not planned.
  • Compare Processed Rows with Estimated daily capacity (8 hour period) and Estimated daily capacity (24 hour period).
    • If the processed rows value is below the estimated 8 hour value, the environment is in a very good status.
    • If it is between estimated 8 hours and estimated 24 hours, the environment performances will be gradated due to the warehouse activity but the environment will still be usable.
    • If it is reaching or crossing estimated 24 hours, the environment is not sized enough for the amount of data that is loaded. It is recommended to review sizing.

The status report displayed in older versions of TrueSight Capacity Optimization is now part of the Space Report details page.
