Upgrading the Application Server components

You can perform a direct upgrade of the Application Server component by running the installation program from the wizard-based UI or in silent mode. When upgrading from a version of the product prior to the last two releases you must perform at least one interim upgrade before you can perform a direct upgrade.

Use the information in this topic to determine your pre-upgrade activities and the installation process for your environment.

Before you begin

  • Review the Release notes and notices for any changes to the system requirements.
  • You must have completed any prerequisite activities outlined in Preparing to upgrade the Application Server.
  • If you are upgrading from version 10.0 or earlier, or if you did not install the TrueSight Presentation Server with version 10.5, you must install it and Atrium Single Sign-On before proceeding with the Application Server upgrade.
  • Ensure that your Oracle environment is not hardened so that the TSCO product installer can query the ALL_USERS table in Oracle to retrieve the database users.

Upgrade process for a typical deployment

  1. Upgrade the Primary Server (which includes the web server and data hub) and ETL Engine, as described in Performing the Application Server components upgrade.
  2. If you deployed additional local or remote ETL Engines, complete the procedure described in Upgrading Application Server components on additional computers.

Upgrade process for a distributed deployment

  1. Upgrade the Primary Server (which includes the web server and database components). For more details, see Performing the Application Server components upgrade.
  2. Upgrade the remaining Application Server components (data hub, primary scheduler, additional web servers, additional ETL Engines), as described in Upgrading Application Server components on additional computers. If these components are on separate servers, upgrade them in the following recommended order.
    1. Data hub
    2. Primary scheduler
