Editing time filter and time period comparison options for an analysis

The Time filter tab enables you to set, or edit, various time filter-related properties such as, selecting from a list of local or global time filters, defining a custom time filter, and tuning how data is displayed based on a selected time filter.

A dedicated set of properties under Compare with different time period enable you to compare multiple time periods for the same series on the same chart. This helps you to evaluate if the behavior of a key performance indicator is changing over time.

    Time filter options

Available only in the Advanced mode.

Select one of the options to tune how data is displayed, based on the selected time filter:

    • Display the period since the start time specified to the last available data
    • Display exactly the requested period
    • Display only the available data within the requested period
    Compare with different time period

Compare multiple time periods for the same series on the same chart. This makes it easier to evaluate if a key performance indicator is changing its behavior. For example, you can create an analysis that displays the CPU utilization for the current month and the previous month overlapped in the same portion of the chart.

    Select from the following options:

    • No comparison: Perform no time period comparison.

    • Compare with the previous <n> days (day by day): Compare with the specified (n) number of days.

    • Compare with the previous <n> weeks (week over week): Compare with the specified (n) number of weeks.

    • Compare with the previous <n> months (month over month): Compare with the specified (n) number of months.

    • Compare with the previous <n> years (year over year): Compare with the specified (n) number of years.

    • Compare with user defined period: Compare over a user-defined period. Three new properties as listed and described below are added to the Time filter tab.

      Note

The intervals you set here are shown on the X-axis of the chart. If the Time filter of the analysis does not cover all the intervals specified here, then the chart only shows values in the intervals that intersect.

For example, if you select 'Week over week', and the Time filter is from Monday to Friday, then the chart will show data from Monday to Friday, even if Compare interval includes other days.

    Comparison type

Available when you select Compare with user defined period in the Compare with different time period step.

    Select from the following options:

    • Day by day

    • Week over week

    • Month over month

    • Year over Year

    Comparison time filter

Available when you select Compare with user defined period in the Compare with different time period step.
