Configuring default settings for reservations

The Settings page is available when you click Reservations > Settings. You can configure the default behavior of the Reservations system in the Setting page. For example, you can update the default resource comparison method, define the tenants and quota settings and so on.

The following table lists the properties you can configure for Reservations.

FieldDescription
Reservations Settings tab: Use this tab to set the default values for forecasting periods, baseline projected growth, resource comparison methods, and the reservation realization mode.
Forecasting period definition

Set the forecasting period from the current date for which the availability of spare VMs will be calculated. The definition and label for both periods are displayed on the Viewing the details of reservation targets screen.

You can define the forecasting period for the following:

  • P1 definition: The number of hours/days/months from the current date until which the resource that is being reserved will be available.
  • P1 label (displayed in tables): The label of the first period (P1) that is displayed in Reservation Target table.
  • P2 definition: The number of hours/days/months after the end of the first period until which the resource that is being reserved will be available.
  • P2 label (displayed in tables): The label of the second period (P2) that is displayed in Reservation Target table.
Default values for baseline projected growth

Set the default values for the projected monthly growth for CPU, Memory, and Storage over the next 12 months. The default values are displayed on the Using policies to specify thresholds in Capacity Pools screen.

You can set the following default values:

  • CPU utilization growth: The default projected CPU utilization monthly growth value, in percentage, over the next 12 months. The default is 1% per month. This value is the forecasted rate per month, at which the CPU utilization is expected to grow over the next 12 months.
  • Memory utilization growth: The default projected Memory utilization monthly growth value, in percentage, over the next 12 months. The default is 1.5% per month. This value is the forecasted rate per month, at which the Memory utilization is expected to grow over the next 12 months.
  • Storage utilization growth: The default projected Storage utilization monthly growth value, in percentage, over the next 12 months. The default is 2.5% per month. This value is the forecasted rate per month, at which the Storage utilization is expected to grow over the next 12 months.

If you want to disable any value, you can set zero percentage as the default value.

Resource comparison method

Set the default usage estimation mode for the Reservation Targets. Choose from the following options:

  • Allocation: Compare the size of the reservation items with the size of the container.
  • Utilization: Compare the utilization of the reservation items with the measured spare capacity of the container.

Use the toggle button to switch between the estimation modes on the Viewing the details of reservation targets screen.

This setting also affects how the usage is estimated and displayed for all Templates and Reservation requirements.

The alert status for Reservation Targets and Capacity Pools is based on the estimation mode.

Select the realization mode to be used for the Reservation, Onboardings, and Offboardings:

  • Automatic: The reservation, onboarding event, or offboarding event will be automatically realized on the selected date.
  • Manual: The reservation has to be manually realized and expired. You must click  for a Reservation from the Managing Reservations screen, and then click Realize to actuate the Reservation. After a Reservation is realized, click Expire to end it.
