Creating a transaction pathway

This topic describes how to create or modify a simple transaction pathway. Use this information to develop more complex real-world transaction pathways.

At any time you can check your progress and the transaction pathway's validity by clicking Validate.
  1. Click New on the BTM tool bar.
  2. Enter the name of the model. Use a name that is descriptive of the transaction pathway you want to monitor.
  3. Place icons representing Begin, Activity, and End nodes in the workspace. Do this by clicking on the icon in the icon tool bar and then clicking in the workspace.
  4. Connect your activities by clicking on an output terminal of an activity and dragging to and releasing on the destination input terminal of another activity.

Add an activity for each technology you wish to monitor in your transaction pathway. You can have one or more end activities on your transaction pathway. Each path that does not merge in the transaction pathway must have an end flag. Click and drag activities to reposition them.

The activities on the transaction pathway only represent the flow of the business process. For information about completing the transaction pathway, refer to the following sections:

When the transaction pathway is complete, refer to Generating the transaction pathway.

If you are modelling a cluster/high availability situation where the activity could represent the same update from one or more hosts, you can accomplish that with one activity rather than having an activity for every possible monitoring point. This is primarily accomplished using multiple hosts in the activity implementation and regular expressions for technology specific details.
