Stocking a data store with a Red Hat Linux operating system

To stock a data store for Red Hat Linux, copy the operating system for Red Hat Linux from installation media to a data store.

The following task provides a generic description using the value RHRelease. When you install a version of Red Hat, replace RHRelease with the appropriate Red Hat release (for example, redhat80 or rhas30 ).

The procedure you use depends on the version of Red Hat:

To stock a data store with Red Hat Linux releases earlier than release 5.x

  1. Create a directory in a data store to hold the Red Hat operating system installation files. For example, if the root directory of the data store is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore, run the following command:
    mkdir "C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>"
Where <RHRelease> is a Red Hat Linux release earlier than 5.x.
  2. Using the first disc of the Red Hat product CD, copy the RedHat directory, including all subdirectories, to the RHReleasedirectory. This creates a directory structure similar to the following example:

    Example

    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\RPMS
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\base
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\TRANS.TBL

  3. Insert all other discs associated with the Red Hat installation and copy the contents of the RedHat\RPMS directories on those disks to: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\RPMS.

To stock the data store with Red Hat Linux release 5.x or later

  2. Using the first disc of the Red Hat product CD, copy the RedHatdirectory, including all subdirectories, to the <RHRelease> directory. This creates a directory structure similar to the following example:

    Example

    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\Cluster
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\ClusterStorage
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\images
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\isolinux
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\Server
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\TRANS.TBL\
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\VT

  3. Insert all other discs associated with the Red Hat installation and copy their contents to: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>
