Starting version 8.9.03, BMC Server Automation is renamed to TrueSight Server Automation. This space contains information about BMC Server Automation 8.9.02 and previous versions. For TrueSight Server Automation 8.9.03 and later releases, see TrueSight Server Automation 8.9.

Interactions between reboot settings

The interaction between reboot settings can be complex, resulting in many possible combinations.

You can potentially define reboot settings for individual items in a BLPackage and for the Deploy Job itself. You can also specify whether reboots should be reconfiguration reboots. The table below details all possible combinations of reboot settings.

The table does not include reboots on UNIX platforms that bring a server into single-job mode (or exit single-job mode, in the case of Solaris 10). A reboot into or out of single-job mode satisfies a requirement for a reboot so another reboot at the end of a job or item deployment is not necessary. A reboot into or out of single-user mode can be a reconfiguration reboot if a reconfiguration reboot is necessary.

Reconfigure Reboot Option Selected in Deploy Job

Description

Yes or No

Use item defined reboot setting

(Not applicable)

Use item defined reconfigure setting

The job reboots for each item that requires a reboot. If any items require a reconfiguration reboot, those reconfiguration reboots occur.

Yes or No

Use item defined reboot setting

(Not applicable)

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job reboots for each item that requires a reboot. All reboots are normal reboots.

Yes or No

Ignore item defined reboot setting

(Not applicable)

Use item defined reconfigure setting

No reboots occur.

Yes or Not

Ignore item defined reboot setting

(Not applicable)

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

No reboots occur

Yes or No

Use item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

No

Use item defined reconfigure setting

The job reboots for each item that requires a reboot. In addition, a normal reboot occurs at the end of job unless the last item installed also performs a reboot.

Yes or No

Use item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

No

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job reboots for each item that requires a reboot. Any reconfiguration reboots are replaced with standard reboots. In addition, a normal reboot occurs at the end of the job unless the last item installed also performs a reboot.

Yes or No

Use item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

Yes

Use item defined reconfigure setting

The job performs all item-level reboots, including any reconfiguration reboots. The final reboot at the end of the job is a reconfiguration reboot.

Yes or No

Use item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

Yes

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job performs all item-level reboots but none of those reboots are reconfiguration reboots. The final reboot at the end of the job is a reconfiguration reboot.

Yes or No

Ignore item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

No

Use item defined reconfigure setting

The job ignores all item-level reboots and performs a normal reboot at the end of the job.

Yes or No

Ignore item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

No

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job ignores all item-level reboots and performs a normal reboot at the end of the job.

Yes or No

Ignore item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

Yes

Use item defined reconfigure setting

The job ignores all item-level reboots and performs a reconfiguration reboot at the end of the job.

Yes or No

Ignore item defined reboot setting and reboot at end of job

Yes

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job ignores all item-level reboots and performs a reconfiguration reboot at the end of the job.

Yes

Consolidate any "After item deployment" reboots until end of job

Yes or No

Use item defined reconfigure setting

The job delays all item-level reboots until a final reboot at the end of the job. If any item-level reboots are reconfiguration reboots, the final reboot is a reconfiguration reboot.

Yes

Consolidate any "After item deployment" reboots until end of job

No

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job delays all item-level reboots until a final, normal reboot at the end of the job.

Yes

Consolidate any "After item deployment" reboots until end of job

Yes

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

The job delays all item-level reboots until a final reconfiguration reboot at the end of the job.

No

Consolidate any "After item deployment" reboots until end of job

Yes or No

Use item defined reconfigure setting

No reboots occur.

No

Consolidate any "After item deployment" reboots until end of job

Yes or No

Ignore item defined reconfigure setting

No reboots occur.
