Notification of end of XML-RPC protocol support for Red Hat patching

Red Hat is transitioning from its Red Hat Network (RHN) hosted interface to a new Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM) interface. With this transition, Red Hat plans to discontinue the Red Hat Network Classic Hosted site by July 30, 2017. Refer to the following Red Hat documentation links for more details:

Impact

The transition from Red Hat Network (RHN) hosted interface to Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM) interface will impact BMC Server Automation (BSA) customers who download patches for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 5 and 6 using the RHN interface.

Solution

To continue patching on RHEL versions 5 and 6 after July 30, 2017, BMC recommends customers to use Content Delivery Network (CDN) channels for downloading patches.

Support for CDN in BMC Server Automation

BMC Server Automation 8.9 already supports Content Delivery Network (CDN) channels for Red Hat Patching, see Content Delivery Network (CDN) patching support for Red Hat. To further extend support for CDN channels, BMC has released the following versions:

Steps to resolve

If you are using BMC Server Automation 8.7, we recommend either of the following solutions to make CDN patching available in your environment:

  • Upgrade BSA to 8.7 Patch 5 and use the CDN download option to create online and offline patch catalogs for RHEL 5 and 6.

OR

  • Upgrade BSA to 8.9.00 and use the CDN download option to create online and offline patch catalogs for RHEL 5 and 6.

Note

BMC Support is available to help with any upgrade-related queries.

Additional advantages of upgrading BSA to version 8.8 or 8.9:

Upgrading BSA to version 8.8 or 8.9 also provides access to many new patch enhancements such as the following:
