Stocking a data store with Windows operating systems
To provision the Windows operating system to bare-metal computers, stock the data store with the operating system installation media for each Windows operating system you plan to provision.
Before you begin
Set up the data store as described in Setting up a data store.
To stock a Windows data store with a Windows operating system
On the data store server, in the data store directory, create a separate directory for each Windows operating system you plan to provision. The directory can have any name. You must create a separate directory for each Windows operating system version.
Copy the operating system installation files to the directory you created:
Operating system Directories and files to copy Windows 2003
Copy the i386 directory (including all of its contents) from the installation media for each Windows operating system into its respective folder.
Windows 2003 x64
Copy the i386 and the AMD64 directories (including all of their contents) from the installation media for each Windows operating system into their respective folders.
Windows 2003 R2
Copy the i386 directory (including all of its contents) from CD1 into its respective folder (for example, win2003R2). Copy the CMPNENTS directory (including all of its contents) from CD2 into the same folder.
Windows 2008
Windows 2008 x64Copy the entire contents of the installation media into the appropriate folder.
Windows 2008 R2
Copy the entire contents of the installation media into the directory you created for Windows 2008 R2.
Windows 2012 Copy the entire contents of the installation media into the appropriate folder.
Windows 2012 R2 Copy the entire contents of the installation media into the directory you created for Windows 2012 R2.
Integration of a service pack into Windows operating system installation files
After you copy Windows operating system installation files to a data store, you can integrate ("slipstream") a service pack into the operating system installation files. If you integrate a service pack, the operating system you provision onto servers includes all updates included in the service pack.
For Microsoft operating systems, it is usually possible to integrate service packs and patches into the Windows operating system installation files. For information on this procedure, see the Microsoft support website.
