Stocking a data store with a Red Hat Linux operating system

To stock a data store for Red Hat Linux, copy the operating system for Red Hat Linux from installation media to a data store.

The following task provides a generic description using the value RHRelease. When you install a version of Red Hat, replace RHRelease with the appropriate Red Hat release (for example, redhat80 or rhas30 ).

The procedure you use depends on the version of Red Hat:

To stock a data store with Red Hat Linux releases earlier than release 5.x

  1. Create a directory in a data store to hold the Red Hat operating system installation files. For example, if the root directory of the data store is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore, run the following command:
    mkdir "C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>"
    Where <RHRelease> is a Red Hat Linux release earlier than 5.x.
  2. Using the first disc of the Red Hat product CD, copy the RedHat directory, including all subdirectories, to the RHReleasedirectory. This creates a directory structure similar to the following example:

    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\RPMS
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\base
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\TRANS.TBL

  3. Insert all other discs associated with the Red Hat installation and copy the contents of the RedHat\RPMS directories on those disks to: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\RedHat\RPMS.

To stock the data store with Red Hat Linux release 5.x or later

  1. Create a directory in a data store to hold the Red Hat operating system installation files. For example, if the root directory of the data store is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore, run the following command:
    mkdir "C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>"
  2. Using the first disc of the Red Hat product CD, copy the RedHatdirectory, including all subdirectories, to the <RHRelease> directory. This creates a directory structure similar to the following example:

    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\isolinux
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\Server
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\TRANS.TBL\
    C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>\VT

  3. Insert all other discs associated with the Red Hat installation and copy their contents to: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\PXE\pxestore\<RHRelease>
