Migrating core BMC Server Automation data

When you perform an upgrade of the BMC Server Automation product, you must perform certain database migration tasks for your Oracle or SQL Server database. Depending on the exact upgrade scenario, you might need to perform one or more of the following tasks:

  • If you are upgrading to an 8.5.x service pack (later than 8.5.00), run a set of SQL Update scripts to upgrade the BMC Server Automation database to the service pack level compatible with the Application Server. See Running the SQL update scripts.
  • In certain upgrade scenarios you must run a postmigration file to migrate various types of rules that were defined in the earlier version of BMC Server Automation. See Performing post-migration updates to rules and policies.

You can migrate to BMC Server Automation version 8.5 only from version 7.6 and later versions. If you are running a version earlier than 7.6, you must first upgrade to version 7.6. See the BMC Server Automation Installation Guide version 7.6 for information on upgrading earlier versions.

    Hi there,

    Well, I have found something a little bit confusing about the order in which steps have to be carry out. I mean, in the following link...

    ...says that you have go through "Running SQL update scripts" before performing the "Post-migration updates to rules and policies".

    <picture here>

    But here, the order is the opposite... just to clarify, my point of view about this is that I suppose that "Running SQL update scripts" should take place before "Post-migration updates to rules an policies"... should not  it?

      Thanks, Pedro. Your comment brought to my attention a few inaccuracies in the documentation. Here are the actions that I took:

      • I changed the order that the topics appear in the tree on the left. The "Running SQL update scripts" topic now appears in the tree before the "Post-migration" topic.
      • I updated the introductory paragraph on the current page.
      • I added a row for running the update scripts in Upgrading. I made sure that the tasks appear in the correct order, consistent with the current page.

      Please let me know if there's anything else that I missed.
