Performing HP-UX or CentOS patch analysis using Vendor Patch Content

Patch analyses for the HP-UX and CentOS platforms are based on Network Shell scripts that are packaged and provided as Vendor Patch Content (VPC), rather than using the main patch management feature in BMC Server Automation (which is described in Patch management overview and workflow).

  • Patch management for HP-UX is based on Software Assistant (SWA), an industry-standard patch analysis tool. Customized versions of Network Shell Script Jobs integrate with this tool and perform the actions necessary to analyze, download, and package patches.
  • Patch management for CentOS is also based on Network Shell Script Jobs. However, CentOS patch repositories are downloaded before performing patch analysis, using third-party utilities.

A standard installation of Vendor Patch Content sets up the various customized Network Shell scripts and provides all other assets needed to run patch analysis for these platforms.
