Managing job logs

The messages generated by a job are stored in a log that you can access after the job has run.

  • View all messages generated for an entire run of a job or only those messages pertaining to a specific server.
  • Filter the log to show specific types of job results.
  • See the servers on which a job ran and whether the job succeeded on those servers.
  • Export the log generated by a job. Logs are exported in CSV format so you can easily import their contents into spreadsheets and databases.

To view a job log

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Using the Servers folder, right-click a server and select Browse. Then select the Activity tab to display the job runs.
    • Using the Servers folder, right-click a server and select Browse. Then select the Audit Results or Snapshot Results tab to navigate to a job. Expand the job to display the job runs.
    • Open the Jobs folder, navigate to a job or Execution Task, right-click the job or Execution Task and select Show Results to display its job runs.
  2. Select a run of a job, right-click, and select Show Log. A window displays log messages generated by the job.
  3. To filter messages so the job log only shows servers with specific job results, use the Run Details drop-down to select Errors, Warnings, Success, or All.
  4. To display messages pertaining to a specific server, select that server in the list at left. The list of messages on the right displays only messages related to the selected server.
  5. To display messages in a dialog box that allows you to scroll through messages one-by-one, double-click on a message. The Log Item Details dialog box opens. Click the Up arrow or the Down arrow to scroll through messages one-by-one. Click Close to close the dialog box.
  6. Click Close to close the log messages window.

To export a job log

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Using the Servers folder, right-click a server and select Browse. Then select the Activity tab to display the job runs.
    • Using the Servers folder, right-click a server and select Browse. Then select the Audit Results or Snapshot Results tab to navigate to a job. Expand the job to display the job runs.
    • Open the Jobs folder, navigate to a job or Execution Task, right-click the job or Execution Task and select Show Results to display its job runs.
  2. Select a run of a job, right-click, and select Export Log. The Export Results dialog box opens.
  3. Specify the location where you want to store the exported results.
  4. For Object Name, provide a file name.
  5. From Object Type, select the default CSV format for the exported log file.
  6. From File encoding, select the type of character encoding used for the exported file.
  7. Click Save.
