Modifying the contents of a software package

To modify the contents of a software package, you must copy the contents of an existing package from the Depot to another location, where you can edit them. Then you can copy the revised contents back into the software package.

Using this procedure to modify the contents of a software package ensures that your changes do not affect other jobs that might also be using this software package.

You cannot use this procedure to modify the contents of a hotfix.

To modify the contents of a software package

1. Open the Depot folder and navigate to an existing software package. Right-click the object and select Open.
   The content editor displays a tab for the Software Properties Panel, which corresponds to the options on the Add Software panel of the Add Depot Software wizard. Those options are described in Adding software.
2. On the Software Properties Panel, next to Installable source, click Copy To . The Select Copy Location dialog box opens. Use this dialog box to specify a location to which the contents of the software package should be copied.
   Performing this action copies a single file or recursively copies the contents of an entire directory. The copy action runs as a background process. You cannot cancel the process.
3. After the contents of the software package have been copied, use any tool or external software to modify the contents of the software package at the location to which you have copied them.
4. On the Software Properties Panel, next to Installable source, click Browse to open the Select Installable Sources dialog box. Using that dialog box, you can identify the modified software package.
   Performing this action copies the modified software package back to the Depot, replacing the existing installable source files. The copy action runs as a background process. You cannot cancel the process.
5. If the software package includes support files that should be modified, perform the following actions for each support file:
   1. On the Software Properties Panel, select an entry in the Support Files table and click Edit Parameter Entry .
      The Set File Parameters dialog box appears.
   2. Next to File location, click Copy To.
      The Select Copy Location dialog box opens.
   3. Using the Select Copy Location dialog box, specify a location to which the support file should be copied.
      Performing this action copies the support file as a background process. You cannot cancel the process.
   4. After the contents of the file have been copied, use any tool or external software to modify the support file at the location to which you have copied it.
   5. On the Set File Parameters dialog box, next to File location, click Browse to open the Select Param File Location dialog box. Using that dialog box, you can identify the modified support file.
      Performing this action copies the modified file back to the Depot, replacing the existing support file.
