Executing commands
The format for a CLI command is as follows:
blcli [Command Options] <Name Space> <Command Name> <Argument1> ... <ArgumentN>
In the command shown above:
[Command Options]
— These are optional and are listed in BLCLI command options.<Name Space>
— Identifies a grouping of related commands, such as Component or AuditJob.<Command Name>
— Unique identifier for a command. (See the BLCLI help for complete documentation on all CLI commands.)<Argument1> ... <ArgumentN>
— List of arguments that you can supply for each command. You must supply a value for all arguments for each command. If an argument contains special characters, it is recommended that you enclose it in double quotes; for example, paths that contain space characters or properties that end with an asterisk.
For example, the following command adds a server to the BMC Server Automation database:
blcli Server addServer win_test1
In this example, Server
is the name space, addServer
is the command, and win_test1
is an argument providing the name of the server being added. This command requires only one argument.
Many arguments in the CLI ask you to provide fully qualified paths to groups, servers, and server objects. A fully qualified path is a path to the group or object, which begins with a slash, such as /ParentGroup/ChildGroup/Object. When you are specifying groups, the top level group (that is, the root group) is "/".
For the complete documentation on all CLI commands and details about the arguments of each command, see the BLCLI help.
