Installing or uninstalling a component
You can install or uninstall a component by running a Batch Job that is associated with the component template.
Using Batch Jobs in this way lets you manage the full life cycle of a component. When creating a component, the Batch Job can include jobs that deploy component parts and then run a Component Discovery Job to discover the component. When uninstalling, the Batch Job can delete component parts and then run a Component Discovery Job to invalidate the existing component. Similarly, the Batch Job can run an Application Discovery Job to discover a new application or invalidate an existing one. Application Discovery Jobs are only available if you have the BMC BMC Application Automation product installed.
Note
If you run a Batch Job that is associated with a component template manually rather than using this procedure, no validation of the Batch Job occurs.
Before you begin
You must associate Batch Jobs with a component template so those jobs can be used for installing or uninstalling components.
These Batch Jobs can include any combination of BLPackage Deploy, File Deploy, and Network Shell Script Jobs needed to create or uninstall components or applications. The Batch Job must also include either a Component Discovery Job or an Application Discovery Job. Typically, discovery jobs run last in the Batch Job sequence, although that is not a requirement. A discovery job cannot be the first job in a Batch Job.
To install or uninstall a component
- In the Component Templates folder, navigate to a component template.
- Right-click the component template and select Install or Uninstall.
The system validates the Batch Job and then opens the Execute Job Now window for the Batch Job associated with the component template. - Select targets for the Batch Job and then click OK to execute the job immediately.
