Including a Batch Job in a system package

You can create a system package that runs a Batch Job.

Having a system package run a Batch Job allows you to build the server stack beyond the operating system or to perform other tasks that you might typically perform using the BMC Server Automation system. For example, you can define a system package that runs a Batch Job consisting of multiple sub-jobs that configure a web server. One sub-job might install Apache and another might add web content to the server.

To include a Batch Job in a system package

1. Create the Batch Job. See Creating a Batch Job.
   In the Batch Job, you can leave the target server field blank or allow any existing value to remain. When a Batch Job is referenced in a system package and executes as part of a Provision Job, the Batch Job executes on the newly provisioned server only.
2. When you create the system package, define its configuration settings to include the Batch Job.
   • Microsoft Windows, Linux, ESX, HP-UX system packages: Specify a Batch Job in Post-installation configuration settings.
   • Solaris system packages: Specify a Batch Job in Finish Script/Agent Install settings.
   • AIX system packages: Specify a Batch Job in Agent Install/First Boot Script settings.
