Preparation for user logons

Before you can log on, you or your system administrator must first create one or more authentication profiles, which are collections of information needed to conduct logons.

An authentication profile specifies the authentication mechanism that should be used during a logon, the Application Server to which a user should connect, and a port for the Authentication Service. (The Authentication Service always resides on the same server as the Application Server.) For details about authentication profiles, see Setting up an authentication profile.

Before you attempt to log on, you should confirm that your user name is included in the BMC Server Automation system of role-based access control (RBAC). If a user is not granted the appropriate rights in RBAC, the user may not be able to authenticate, or, if authentication succeeds, the user may not be able access the correct system objects throughout BMC Server Automation. After you satisfy the prerequisites, you can log on to the BMC Server Automation Console (see Starting the BMC Server Automation Console).
