Adding or removing Windows users
To add or remove a Microsoft Windows user, do the following:
- Live browse any Windows server.
- Open the Local Users node.
- Find any user. Select a user that looks similar to the one that you want to add or remove.
Right-click the User and choose Add to depot as BLPackage.
When you finish creating the BLPackage, it looks like this:
Note
Although you might see multiple objects in the BLPackage, the BLPackage contains only one user (the Guest user in the illustration figure above). Other objects are groups to which the user belongs.
In the current example, the Guest user is a member of a Windows Group named Guests. This Windows Group is included in the patch, along with a child node named Guest for the user within the group. As illustrated by the following figures, during deployment BMC Server Automation will modify the Windows Group (Action=Modify
in the properties of the Guests group) by creating and adding a user to the group (Action=Add
in the properties of the Guest node under the Guests group).
- You can now modify the values of the various properties of the packaged user. You can change any property that is not greyed out (for example,
Password
orHomeDirDrive
). - If you want to removethe packaged user from any target server, perform the following steps:
- Change the
Action

- Remove the user from its parent Group, in eitherof the following ways:
- Change the
Action
of the user node nested under the group node from Add to Delete, as shown in the following figure:
- Delete the entire Windows Group (along with its child user node) from the BLPackage. Windows will handle the fact that when a user gets deleted from the system, this user also gets deleted from any Windows Group that it belonged to. Your BLPackage will then look like this:
