Modifying Execution Task definitions

After the creation of an Execution Task, you can modify its definitions at any time. This is especially useful if the Execution Task was created automatically upon request during the execution of a job against failed targets.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have, at minimum, the ExecutionTask.Read and the ExecutionTask.Modify authorizations. Depending on the exact modifications that you perform on the Execution Task, you might also need the ExecutionTask.ModifyProperties, ExecutionTask.ModifySchedule, and ExecutionTask.ModifyTargets authorizations.

To modify execution task definitions

  1. Open the Jobsfolder and navigate to an existing Execution Task. Then do any of the following:
    • To modify the definitions of an existing Execution Task (not including properties and permissions), right-click the Execution Task and select Open. The content editor displays the following tabs that correspond to the panels displayed when creating a new Execution Task. The following topics describe those tabs:
      • Execution-Task-General
      • Execution-Task-Targets
      • Execution-Task-Job-Properties
      • Execution-Task-Schedules

        Note

You cannot change the job with which the Execution Task is associated. To select target servers in the Targets panel, you must first click Add Servers. You cannot switch between the Use job targets and Use the following targets options on the Targets panel. If the Execution Task is associated with a Workflow Job, a Virtual Guest Job, a Provision Job, or a UCS Provision Job, target selection is not relevant and the Targets panel is not displayed.

    • To see or modify any of the properties, permissions, or audit trail information that apply to this Execution Task, select the Execution Task and then select the Properties, Permissions, or Audit Trail tab group.
  2. To save your revisions to the Execution Task, click Save.
