4.0.10: Service Pack 1

This topic contains information about fixes and updates in this service pack, and provides instructions for downloading and installing the service pack.

For information about issues corrected in this service pack, see Release notes and notices.

Enhancements

Service Pack 1 provides the following enhancements:

Support for dynamically typed events

BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.10 now supports event monitoring of EventEx and ExtendedEvent.

Reduced number of connections to vCenter

BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.10 will now launch a single JAVA process by default for data collection resulting in a single connection (session) to the vCenter. Additional JAVA process will be launched only if event filters have been configured.

Earlier, the KM used to launch two JAVA processes for its data collection. One for collecting all inventory and performance data and one for collecting events like vMotion events and events for user configured filters. This resulted in two connections (sessions) to the vCenter. Now, vMotion events will be collected by default JAVA process.

Support for RHEL 7.x

BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.10 now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 7.x

Support for custom Java Runtime Environment (JRE) location

You can specify the directory path of the JRE that you want the KM to use for monitoring the VMware environment. Use the Set Java Home menu command, in the VSM application class, to specify the custom JRE location.

For more information see JRE Configuration dialog box.

Note

  • BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.10 will not ship JRE bundle with image.
  • Minimum supported JRE version is 1.7

Deprecated features

In BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.10, support for vCenter server 4.x is discontinued.
