2.7.10.01: Patch for BMC PATROL for Log Management 2.7

This section contains information about fixes in this patch, and provides instructions for downloading and installing the patch. For information about corrected issues in this patch, see Known and corrected issues.

Downloading the patch and installation utility

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the patch from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

To download the patch and installation utility from the EPD website

  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

    Note

    On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
  7. You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
Using Component View
  1. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  2. Click Go.
  3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.

    Note

    BMC recommends you to use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.00 and above.

  4. In the Version: list, select 9.6.02, and click Go.
  5. In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

  6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
  7. Click   icon to close the window.
  8. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL for Log Management.
  9. Click Go.
  10. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for Log Management.
  11. In the Version: list, select 2.7.10, and click Go.
  12. In the Patches tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

  14. Complete the installation procedure described in the Installing the patch section.
Using Licensed Products View
  1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
  2. Locate and expand BMC Performance Manager for Servers and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
  3. Expand BMC Performance Manager for Servers 3.5.00 to show the available components.

    Note

    BMC recommends you to use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.00 and above.

  4. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.02 to show the available files.
  5. Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platform.

  8. Select the check box next to the patches, based on the appropriate platform.

Installing the patch

Note

Before you begin

You must install the patch on the hosts that are running the PATROL Agent.

Before you install the patch, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the PATROL Agent.
  2. Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  3. Stop the PATROL applications or PATROL processes that are running.
  4. Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.
  5. Based on the operating system, extract the installation utility and patch file. The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products sub-directory

Note

Perform steps 2, 3, and 4 only if BMC PATROL Console and PATROL Agent are installed on the same computer.

To install the BMC PATROL for Log Management 2.7.10.01 patch

After you have downloaded the installation utility and patch files, perform the following steps to install the patch:

  1. Extract the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:

    • (Windows) Double-click ins_WINDOWS_9600.zip
    • (UNIX) Enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_9600.tar

      The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
  2. Extract the patch file as appropriate for your operating system:
    • (Windows) Double-click pmg_ALL_271001.zip
    • (UNIX) Enter tar -xvf pmg_ALL_271001.tar

      The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory. 
  3. From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:

    • (Windows) Double-click setup.exe

    • (UNIX) Run setup.sh
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed. 

  5. On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL Knowledge Module for Log Management - Patch 2.7.10.01.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
