Deployment examples for HMC monitoring

Consult this topic before you configure the Hardware Management Console for monitoring.

ScenarioRecommended action
If you want to monitor HMC as well as the basic health of all the Logical Partitions
  • Deploy PATROL Agent and PATROL for AIX on one of the Logical Partitions or Microsoft Windows or Red Hat Enterprise Linux host
  • Configure the Hardware Management Console monitoring profile to connect to the HMC and discover all the Logical Partitions below the HMC
  • Configure the common credentials that will be used to connect to all these Logical Partitions to start the monitoring
  •  Select Default monitoring profile. You can monitor CPU, Memory, Network and Filesystem with the Default monitoring profile.
  • You can use filtering options to exclude or include the Logical Partitions for OS monitoring
For BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization
  • With the Automatic Discovery and Remote Monitoring of LPAR from HMC feature, complete data monitoring can be achieved with single PATROL Agent deployment (by using the Capacity profile).
  • PATROL Agent deployment (local PATROL Agent) will be required only if you have Workload Partitions and these Workload Partitions metrics are required to be monitored.
  • Example:
If you have one HMC that is connected to two Managed Systems with approximately 50 Logical Partitions, then you can install the PATROL for AIX KM on one host (either Microsoft Windows or Red Hat Enterprise Linux or AIX) and configure the HMC and Automation Logical Monitoring feature to start monitoring of your environment.
