Understanding template formatting

The commands that appear in a template typically use the same syntax and formatting that you see in the device configuration file. Certain device types, however, require some extra formatting, such as a header line or a footer line, or the device does not correctly process the template. Care must also be taken to indicate blocks and sub-blocks correctly; in most cases, the configuration shows you exactly what the device's blocking style is and your templates should mimic it.

See the Device Adapter Capabilities report's Template Content and Formatting information for special rules regarding the contents of a template for your device.
