Understanding tunneling support
When tunneling is used as the file transfer mode for a device, a configuration snapshot is performed by capturing the output of show
types of commands (for example, show running-configuration
). Configuration changes are made by batching CLI commands to the device.
The Tunneled protocol is used under the following circumstances:
- Standard management: A device does not support a file transfer protocol to back up or make changes to the configuration file.
Standard management was previously called Mode 1. - Terminal server management: The device is managed through a serial terminal server connected to the device's console port.
Terminal server management was previously called Mode 3.
Note
Mode 2 tunneling is not supported in BMC Network Automation 8.2.01 and later. BMC recommends installing a device agent on the bastion host. This approach manages devices through the bastion host without losing functionality.
Comments
Hi Team,
We have received some feedback and the customer would like us to include more information about the tunnelled mode and how data flows between RDA, File server and BNA in that mode.
Thanks
