Editing devices
To modify the attributes of previously defined devices, you can choose between the following methods:
To edit a single device
This editing option includes many additional device attributes that are not available when editing multiple devices at once.
Click Edit in the Actions column of the relevant device.
Tip
To find the device that you want to edit, you can click View and display a summary of device attributes.
The Edit Device page is displayed.
On the Details tab, specify values as described in Adding a device.
Note
For instructions on how to add various types of user and system assigned dynamic fields to the device record, see Managing dynamic fields.
When editing a device, system assigned dynamic field values are displayed. You cannot edit these values. On the Groups tab, select static groups to associate with the device by moving groups from the list of available groups (that is, groups defined in the database) to the list of selected groups.
Note
A device cannot be added or removed from an auto group, as this is performed by BMC Network Automation based on the device's attributes (for example Model or Location).
Changes in group membership might require substantial processing and might take some time to be applied. For example, if you save an edit session for a device in which you change the number of groups it belongs to from 100 to 200, the resulting background thread might take 10 minutes to update the device count value for the group. The group list page continues to display a value of 100 during the period until the update thread completes.- On the Configurations tab, you can view current, trusted and historical configuration files associated with the device.
In the Trail field, select the type of configuration files to be listed, from the menu of trails for which the device has configurations. Note that the menu does not show all possible supported trails for the device type, but the trails this device currently has. A device that has never had a successful snapshot will show no options for selection in the Trail menu.
You can select a configuration file in the list and perform the following actions:- To view or print a report that contains the content of the configuration file, as well as general device information at the top of the report, click View.
- To add or edit a remark about the configuration file (for example, reason for change), click Edit Annotation.
- To create a template from the configuration file, select Create Template. For more details see Adding a template.
To view or edit an assigned target configuration, click View or Edit under the specifications of the target configuration, which appear only if a target has been assigned. You can edit and merge a target configuration to implement a configuration change or restore a configuration.
Note
The Target configuration can be assigned by using the Assign Target span action or a Configuration Import task. An Assign Target quick link is also available on the device pop-up window from the Device List.
Select the Status tab to review the device's discrepancy and compliance status, last configuration action status, OS image, and hardware history. BMC Network Automation shows standard and custom span action status, including the detailed Transcript.
Note
To generate a report on hardware inventory history, click a link in the Hardware Inventory History box on the Status tab. This report shows the discovered hardware entities, memory, and flash for Cisco IOS, IOS XR, and Nexus device types. It also shows any imported hardware inventory data (for example, from HP NNM or CiscoWorks RME).
- Click Save to save all your changes to the device attributes.
To edit multiple devices together
You can edit multiple devices at once, applying common attributes to all devices.
Select multiple devices using the check box to the left of each device name in the device list.
You can use the Filter to narrow down the list. Note that you can select devices on a single page only.- Click the Edit menu option above the list of devices.
The Edit Multiple Devices page is displayed, with the single Details tab. Specify values in any of the fields on the Details tab, as described in Adding a device.
Note
All fields on this page are optional. Only the fields in which you specify values are applied to the group of devices that you selected for editing. All other fields are not touched in the edited devices.
Click Save.
