Understanding the directory and file structure for the remote device agent

The table below lists the directores and files used by the BMC Network Automation remote device agent. The remote device agent uses only the directory in which it is installed, C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BCA-Networks-Agent on Microsoft Windows or /opt/bmc/bca-networks-agent on Linux.

The remote device agent does not use a separate data directory, as the server does.

The paths in the following table are shown in Linux format. The Windows directory structure is the same except for the use of the forward slash (/).

/bcanagent

The executable agent file (Linux only).

/BcanInstalledConfiguration.xml

Stores selections made during the installation or upgrade process.

/FileRegistry.xml

Mapping of system files created by the installation program.

/FileRegistry.xsd

Schema file associated with the File Registry.

/InstallationTaskConfiguration.xsd

Schema file that defines the legal structure of installer selections XML files (such as BcanInstalledConfiguration.xml).

/imported

Imported classes and libraries used to run the agent. The files in this directory are dynamically loaded and updated from the server when the agent is run.

/installed

Installed classes and libraries used to run the agent. The files in this directory are created by the installer.

/installed/classes/com/bmc/bcan/resources/
agent.properties

Java property file containing general configuration data used by the device agent. This file is deployed to the device agents during installation. This file is discussed in Understanding property and configuration files.

global.properties.installed

Java property file containing general configuration data used by both the server and device agents. This file is deployed to the server and device agents during installation. This file is discussed in Understanding property and configuration files.

/java

Libraries and binaries for running the Java virtual machine.

/log

Log files.

/tftpd

Libraries and binaries for running a TFTP server (Windows only).

/tmp

Location of all product, TFTP, and other temporary files.

/tools

Scripts and tools for maintaining the system. The files in this directory are discussed in Understanding tools and scripts.

/UninstallBMCBcan

Libraries and binaries for the uninstallation program.

/utility

The installation maintenance utility.

/wrapper

The wrapper enables the agent to run as a service (Windows only).

/.keystore

Certificate for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
