About lists and views

BMC Network Automation supports a variety of lists that share common navigation methods and actions. Views and filters allow you to search a list more efficiently. These lists have the same basic structure and navigational elements and differ in specific details.

The default view is the view used on a list the first time you visit the list after logging in. Within a logon session, BMC Network Automation remembers which view you last used and re-displays the list by using the remembered view. Logging off clears that away and the default view is used at the next log on.

You can select a private view or a shared view to be your default view. If you do not select a default view, BMC Network Automation provides a standard view for each list that serves as the default (for example, Show Recent Events on the events list, and Show All Devices on the devices list and the Dashboard).

You can delete any private view that you no longer find useful. You can delete a shared view only when granted the applicable right in your role. Deleting your default view reverts your default to the BMC Network Automation system's standard default.

When you enter a page that supports views, BMC Network Automation uses the following criteria, in the specified order, to determine which view to display:

  1. View specified in the URL (for example email or browser URL)
  2. Last view saved in the user session. This would be the case if the user has already visited a list during the session and is going back to the list again.
  3. Default view specified by the user. This would be the case in which the user has not visited the list during the session so the initial view is the user's default view, if any.
  4. Show All Component view. This would be the case in which, like above, the user has not visited the list during the session and the user has never created a view or specified a default view.
