About merge capabilities

The Deploy To Active span action is used to perform configuration changes to a Running configuration by "merging" new settings into existing settings, as follows:

• Incremental Merge or SmartMerge: Creates scripts that include only those commands that are necessary to transform the current Running configuration into the selected configuration (rollback) or to enforce the selected rules. This is similar to making registry changes via scripts. The SmartMerge script is merged onto the device. The user might edit the script prior to submitting the Deploy to Active request by saving the auto-generated script as a template and then merging the template.
• Full Merge: The entire configuration file is merged onto the device by the system. The result of the Deploy to Active operation depends on the devices internal logic for resolving the differences between the current Running configuration and the selected configuration.
