Adding a configuration import task

This topic describes how add a configuration import task. You can import configurations as target configurations or templates from your own repository and from external third party management applications (for example, modeling tools). The configuration is imported in ASCII format. Multiple import tasks are queued to run once or on a recurring basis.

  1. Open the Add Configuration Import Task page by navigating Network > Import/Export > Configuration Import > Add.

  2. Enter information in the following fields:
    • Name: Specify a unique name, up to 40 characters, for the import task.
    • Annotation: (Optional) Specify a comment or remark about the import task.
    • Source Directory: Where to locate the imported configurations. This directory must be accessible to the server. The default directory is the /configs directory in installation directory.
    • Match Filenames: (Optional) Specify what files are to be imported from the Source Directory. If you leave this blank, all files will be imported. The name of the file is used to locate a device by its name (when importing into target configurations) or to name a template (when importing to templates). If you specify a filename extension here (for example, as *.cfg or *.txt), the filename extension will be stripped off before using the rest of the filename for locating or naming.
    • Destination: Specify whether the imported configurations should be stored in the respective target configurations or as templates.
    • Enabled: (Optional) Select to enable the import task. By default the task is enabled.
    • Auto Purge: (Optional) Select if the import task should be purged after its scheduled execution. The default is to manually purge import tasks.
    • Delete Files After Use: (Optional) Specify if BMC Network Automation should delete the imported files from the source directory after importing.
    • Overwrite Existing Contents: (Optional) Should BMC Network Automation overwrite existing target configuration or template during the import. The default is to overwrite the existing contents.
    • Repeat: Specify how often to repeat the import task as Import Once, Import Daily, Import Weekly, or Import Monthly.
    • Import Time:
      • Import Once: Import Now or at a Date/Time in the future.
      • Import Daily: Specify the time (hour and minute) to execute the import task each day.
      • Import Weekly: Specify the time (hour and minute) and day(s) of the week to execute the import task.
      • Import Monthly: Specify the day of the month and import time to execute the import task.
  3. Click Save to save this configuration import task.
