Stopping the BMC Software Primary Subsystem

Although BMC recommends that the BMCP run continuously, you must stop it as part of an orderly shutdown of MVS before an IPL. The SHUTDOWN command provides a nondisruptive way of stopping a BMC Software Primary Subsystem, allowing jobs to finish before the subsystem shuts down.

To stop the BMCP

  1. Enter the following command:

    bmcp SHUTDOWN

Message BMC10106I indicates that termination was initiated, and message BMC10228I confirms that termination completed. Status messages are also displayed.

    Following are example messages:

    BMC10106I Subsystem termination initiated. BMCP
    BMC10228I Subsystem termination completed. BMCP
  2. (optional) Review the system log to ensure that the command completed successfully.
