Stopping the MainView Batch Optimizer Subsystem - Job Optimizer

You can leave the MBOS running continuously. However, you must stop it as part of an orderly shutdown of MVS before an IPL.

To stop the MBOS address space in a nondestructive manner

  1. Enter the following command:

    mbos SHUTDOWN

When you stop the MBOS, the following actions occur:

    • The MBOS responds with message BMC11106I to indicate that termination was initiated and message BMC11228I to indicate that termination completed. The following messages are examples:

      BMC11106I Subsystem termination initiated. MBOS

BMC11228I Subsystem termination completed (EOT). MBOS>

    • If Job Optimizer has work executing on the subsystem at the time the SHUTDOWN command is entered, the MainView Batch Optimizer Subsystem issues the BSL QUIESCE NOW command to perform an orderly shutdown.

    • The MBOS remains in memory until you perform an IPL.

  2. (optional) To stop the MainView Batch Optimizer Subsystem address space immediately regardless of any processing that might be occurring when the command is entered, include the optional FORCE command.

      mbos SHUTDOWN FORCE

The MainView Batch Optimizer Subsystem responds with messages to indicate that a forced shutdown might cause unpredictable results. You are given three options:

    Option

    Description

    U

    Continue with the forced shutdown

    N

    Switch to normal shutdown processing

The MainView Batch Optimizer Subsystem issues the BSL QUIESCE NOW command to perform an orderly shutdown.

    Any other key

Stop the forced shutdown and continue processing as if the command had not been issued
