Cloning assets
If you have similar types of assets, you can create one asset and clone it multiple times. For example, if your organization has twenty iPhones of the same model, you can create one asset and clone it for the remaining iPhones.
Before you begin
Before cloning an asset, you must be aware of the following points:
- Class attributes and the fields that are displayed on the user interface are cloned.
- The name displayed in the Instance Name field is cleared. You must enter a name for the cloned asset.
- Though information displayed on the following tabs is not cloned, there are some exceptions:
- Relationships: Relationships of the Sub-Service of and Location fields are cloned.
- Details: If a source record displays a value in the Primary Client field, the value is cloned and is displayed in the Clients section on the Details tab.
- Linked records such as incidents, tasks, change requests of an existing asset are not cloned.
- If you do not want to clone an attribute, you must add it to the Clone Exclusions fieldset in the Base Element object. For example, if you do not want to clone Serial # and Asset # of an asset, you can add them to the Clone Exclusions fieldset. The Clone Exclusions fieldset is available out-of-the-box and is empty.
- The Clone button is visible in both upgraded and freshly installed organizations. This button is visible only to those users who have the create permission.
